The City of London Corporation developed the CIVIC principles to act as a compass for businesses and leaders on their trust journey. These principles bring together the views of the public, elements of the sector’s codes of conduct, with input from the Lord Mayor’s Trust Advisory Group (2017-18). The full extract can be found here.

The City of London Corporation has developed the CIVIC principles as a high-level framework for the areas that businesses should focus on to build trust. These are a guide to trustworthy behaviour in business – bringing together the views of the public and industry-led codes of conduct, with input from an advisory group of expert industry leaders.

The CIVIC principles are:


competence and skills

being capable and doing what you do well

integrity

being honest, straightforward and reliable

value to society

recognising and meeting wider societal needs

interests of others

taking account of and respecting the interests of customers, employees, investors and other stakeholders

clear communication

being transparent, open, responsive and accountable
